2011 World Series
New York Yankees 4, New York Mets 3
Title #28
After another injury plagued season in 2010, the New York Mets will hire Wally Backman and the Amazins will enjoy unprecedented good health. The feisty former infielder will take the Mets to a three games to one commanding lead. In the bottom of the ninth in game five, David Ortiz acquired from the Mariners at the trade deadline steps to the plate for the Bombers. The Mets defense puts on the Big Papi shift. A bloop to shallow center will result in a collision between Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran, and David Wright. Ortiz completes the game-winning inside the park homerun by sliding into K-rod. With all four players injured for Games 6 and 7, the Yankees outscore their crosstown rivals 32-2 in the final two games.
